George R.R. Martin interviews Bernard Cornwell: a link to great ideas about historical fiction

I have to thank Kate Quinn (whose upcoming book I am coincidently reading) for posting a link in one of the historical fiction discussion groups on Goodreads to this fascinating interview: George R.R. Martin asking questions of Bernard Cornwell. They clearly like each other which leads them to asking and answering with depth and warmth, very engaging. If you’ve ever thought about the relationship between historical fantasy and historical fiction (think Tolkien vs. Forester), how HF writers cope with the strictures of following known history, why Cornwell will never write “alternate” history, how to write a great battle scene, or love either of these writers, you’ll enjoy this
interview between Bernard Cornwell and George R.R. Martin.

  1. I just discovered this author by listening to the audio rendition of Agincourt. I really enjoyed it, and I’m delighted to find this interview and learn about his other novel series as well.
