Weekly Roundup of History, Archaeology and Writing Wisdom Sept 20-26

For this week’s reviews, interviews and guest posts about Hand of Fire, go to my Events page and scroll down to the Virtual tour schedule. Click here.

My favorites around the web this week:

For those who wanted a write up of my “Common Sense Marketing for Authors” talk at Sisters in Crime Desert Sleuths Chapter, Karen Randau has done it for me–a really excellent job. Seasoned journalist that she is, she listened to the talk and then interviewed me after. Click here.

The caryatids of the Amphipolis tomb (Alexander the Great era) have been fully uncovered. They are magnificent. This is one of the most beautiful discoveries in a long time. There’s still red and yellow pigment on their feet. (ancient statues were all painted—not the white marble we think of) Their dress drapery is lovely. Click here.

Alalakh_01The Forgotten Kingdom: ancient Alalakh exhibition will focus on this Anatolian Bronze Age center Click here

Augustus’ private home with frescoed rooms unveiled after years of restoration. On my list of places to see, how about you? Click here

This is a very entertaining post by Anna Belfrage about kings who ate themselves to death in various ways from lampreys to cream buns. Click here
