Here are some posts I enjoyed this week from around the web:

5th C BCE mosaics in synagogue in the Galilee reveal mythological creatures and symbols associated with Dionysius (and one with Samson in it). Remarkable how at variant the archaeological record of Judaism is with the early rabbinic rules. Fascinating. Writing one second of detail: a post by Barbara O’Neal on one of my favorite writing blogs Writer Unboxed. I loved her hints of how to capture the true detail that reveals. Not at all a bad philosophy for approaching how to live life even for the non-writer. Click here for “One Second of Detail” on Writer Unboxed”

leather bound booksOn The Power of Fiction to change the world—even when you think it’s not a book on a “serious” topic. A lovely, articulate statement by Jo Eberhardt about why books matter so profoundly, even the ones that the writer set out to accomplish nothing more than a good story. Good stories are transformative in the right reader’s hands. What was the book that made all the difference to you? Click here for “On the Power of Fiction to Change the World” on Writer Unboxed
