King Tut is in the news these days because it’s been 100 years since the discovery of his amazing tomb. The sheer quantity of the burial treasures of King Tutankhamun is a puzzle. The Ancient Near East Today blog has a good post on just why Tut’s tomb was so overloaded with grave goods. It wasn’t plundered, of course, but the overabundance of ritual and daily life objects in his tomb has a more complicated story to it than that happenstance of history.

Here are some hints regarding the burial treasures of King Tutankhamun. His father was the “heretic” pharaoh whose religious revolution was quickly undone. Tut lived at a time of splendor and royal wealth. Observe the layout of both later and earlier tombs compared to Tut’s.
